The Great American Think-Off: A Return to the Public Philosophy Prize
In ethics lore, the philosopher who takes the prize for prizes is the 18th century French philosopher, Jean-Jacques Rousseau. A frustrated musician, by 1749, J.J. was both resentful and hurt that he was not as famous as his other philosophe friends, then igniting France with the Enlightenment. It so happened that Rousseau read about an essay contest in a magazine. The sponsor was the Academy of Dijon, which today we are more likely to recognize for naming a fancy mustard. On a Mission: Can you Match the Mission with the Company?
At a2ethics.org we are seeking a mission. After doing just a little research, we have found there are books on writing mission statements! Of course there are. Where have we been? Given that we want a mission and feel we will be left out of the "Mission Statement or Die!" advice that some people who just know have proffered, we took some time to look at some of the mission statements of companies and organizations around the Ann Arbor area. We don't think we can improve on any of them. This has created mission statement depression for us. But an ethical challenge for you!

The Joker's Little Social Experiment: Cast Your Vote
In the new Batman movie, "The Dark Knight," Batman's nemesis is The Joker. Among the many jokes that he plays on the people of Gotham, the police and Batman is the wiring of two packed ferries with explosives. In one ferry are prisoners from the penitentiary, men who have been convicted of crimes and are doing time. In the other are citizens of Gotham, including the usual array of women, children, the elderly as well as men.
