The annual Great Lakes Philosophy Conference is discovering and introducing new stars, building a universal audience, and in the forefront of changing expectations about who enters the atmosphere of "PhilosoEarth." We like to recognize this Conference as an affirmation of participatory philosophy, one that is interdisciplinary as well as intergenerational and inclusive.
Lead organizer Dr. Leland Harper, philosophy professor at Siena Heights University has established this longtime annual event as the first ever academic philosophy conference to invite high school students onto the stage to share ideas and banter about what's new in "philosodom"; learn about the latest thought experiments in the vast and various fields of philosophy as well as to consider the power and value of mind---and of changing minds.
This is not really about "firsts." This is all about giving a chance to new minds and an advocacy of respect to expand and strengthen philosophy's aspirations to change minds and build lasting communities.

The A2Ethics Infinite Possibilities Project was started in 2022 to advocate for and champion high school participation, teacher and student involvement in professional knowledge and networking exchanges and events, including Philosophy Conferences. We thank Dr. Leland Harper of Siena Heights University for his commitment and for creating a model for other conference organizers. In 2024, the annual in-person Fall Undergraduate in Philosophy Conference at Eastern Michigan University also opened up a High School section and welcomed high school students to be present--and to present.
