Please join us--for not just one--but three chances to do some online pondering and sharing of our different views about how we think science should intersect with democracy. Among the possibilities: the expectations for and responsibilities of scientists, policymakers and citizens and what we believe is their relationship to each other. Our own and others' experiences with different areas of science we think promote engagement or are reasons for disengagement.
Series dates and times: Mondays, February 24, March 10 and March 24 from 7:00pm to 8:00pm.
Leading the series is Professor Eduardo J. Martinez of the University of Cincinnati (UC) and a faculty affiliate of the UC Center for Public Engagement with Science. And A2Ethics is thrilled that the Center has joined in promoting and participating in this initiative.
To get us even more enthused and ponder-ready, Eduardo has given a concise preview of the entire series. His introduction definitely keeps you engaged. Following the principle of these Symposia, please share it--and talk about the topics with others in your orbit.
Speaking of the "sharing and talk about it" principle behind these Symposia, Eduardo's academic research was pivotal in providing support for the Symposia series and the value it has in promoting democratic practices and habits of community conversation. You can learn more about these ideas in Eduardo's 2024 book co-authored with Professor of Philosophy Derrick Darby, entitled Boxed In: Making Identities Safe for Democracy.
